To

Require the compulsory installation of automatic fire sprinklers in all new-

build educational establishments; and for connected purposes. 

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and

consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present

Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Installation of automatic fire sprinklers

(1)   

The Secretary of State must, not later than 31 December 2010, make regulations

for the compulsory installation of automatic fire sprinklers in all new-build

educational establishments.

(2)   

Regulations under this section may make such incidental or transitional

provision as the Secretary of State considers appropriate.

(3)   

Regulations under this section shall be made by statutory instrument and shall

be subject to annulment in pursuance of a resolution of either House of

Parliament.

Penalties

Section 35 of the Building Act 1984 (penalty for contravening building

regulations) shall apply to the contravention of regulations under section 1 as

it applies to the contravention of building regulations.

Short title, commencement and extent

(1)   

This Act may be cited as the Fire Safety (Schools) Act 2010.

(2)   

This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.

(3)   

This Act extends to England and Wales.
