The Work of the Committee in 2008-09 - Foreign Affairs Committee Contents

8  Looking ahead

58. Our planning for Session 2009-10 is constrained by the knowledge that a Dissolution of Parliament must take place by, at the latest, May 2010.

59. In July 2009 we announced our next major inquiry under our general inquiry heading, Global Security. This major inquiry, entitled Global Security: UK-US Relations, will consider the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States of America, and the implications of this relationship for UK foreign policy. We held our first oral evidence session in this inquiry on 11 November 2009, and intend to conclude our evidence gathering before the end of the calendar year, with the aim of publishing our Report in March 2010.

60. We also intend to publish our Report on the FCO's Annual Report 2008-09 in March 2010 (see paragraph 37 above).

61. We will continue our practice of visiting the EU Presidency country: a visit to Spain, combined with visits to Portugal, Cyprus and Malta, will take place in January 2010. In order to continue monitoring progress and developments following on from our earlier work, we also intend to revisit Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories in February 2010.
