HR 194: Letter to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from the Chairman: Camp Ashraf, Iraq

In recent weeks there have been press reports that operations by the Iraqi security forces in Camp Ashraf, northern Iraq, have led to several deaths and many injuries.

The Committee would be grateful to receive a note from you setting out the FCO's understanding of the current situation in Camp Ashraf, giving any information available to whether human rights abuses have taken place there, what mechanisms have been put in place to monitor human rights observance in the camp since its transfer to Iraqi control, and whether there are any proposals to transfer residents of the camp to Iranian custody. The Committee would also be grateful to know whether HMG has made or intends to make any representations to the Iraqi government about the situation at Camp Ashraf.

It would be helpful to receive a response by not later than Wednesday 2 September.
