Letter from Admiral The Lord West of Spithead,
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office, to the Second
Clerk of the Committee
WATCHLISTS AND
"NO-FLY"
LISTS
Thank you for your letter, received on 3 February,
which asked a number of follow up questions on the application
and administration of a UK no-fly list.
Following the Prime Minister's statement to
the House on 20th January, in which he announced the Government's
intention to use the watchlist as the basis for no-fly and enhanced
screening lists, the Home Office is considering how best to implement
these measures; our review incorporates some of the issues you
raise in your letter. However, this work is still being developed,
and it will not be possible to share findings with you at this
point.
I may be able to answer some of your questions
once the review is complete, and will correspond further on these
matters at this time, however it is likely that much of the information
regarding the watchlist will remain confidential on the grounds
of national security, as it includes highly classified information
from our stakeholders, including the security and intelligence
agencies.
