Police Searches on the Parliamentary Estate - Committee on the Issue of Privilege Contents

Letter to the Clerk of the Committee from Sir Patrick Cormack MP

Thank you for your e-mail of 7 September.

I have two points to make. First of all, I very much hope the new Committee will look most carefully at the Report and recommendations made by the Joint Committee on Privilege, on which I sat over a decade ago.

Secondly, and on the specific issue of police searches, I strongly believe that the search of a Member's office should be only be allowed on production of a warrant signed by both the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and the Speaker of the House of Commons.
