Written evidence from Risteard MacGabhann
There are many points that could be made in
support of continuing support for Northern Ireland's Irish Language
Broadcasting Fund, but the one I wish to highlight in these recessionary
times of declining employment opportunity, is the way in which
the ILBF, through its modest training and programme production
budgets, has created a real and remarkably productive dimension
to N. Ireland's media production capacity.
Viewed simply as an employment creation scheme,
it is readily justified. Of course, it is much more than that.
