Government Communications - Public Administration Committee Contents

Letter from Matt Tee to Committee Staff, 5 February 2010

Thank you for your letter of 19 January1 setting out the questions raised by the Committee. I am writing to acknowledge these questions and I would also like to take this opportunity to clarify a statement made during the session.

RESPONSE TO Q49

I agreed that I would write to the committee once I have reached a firmer understanding of where the 25% cuts in communications budgets as identified in Smarter Government will come from. This will form part of the Treasury Operational Efficiency Programme and I hope to write to the Committee in due course.

RESPONSE Q91, Q95

I agreed to write to the Committee identifying the number of government communicators employed in Agencies and Non-Departmental Public Bodies. As I indicated in my evidence this review of staff numbers forms part of the benchmarking work I am undertaking with Whitehall Directors of Communication over the next six months. This information will be published as part the Treasury Operational Efficiency Programme and review of departmental corporate functions and I will write to the Committee in due course when information is available.

RESPONSE TO Q18

I would like to clarify my evidence to the Committee in response to this question. The General Election guidance document has not yet been issued to departments; this is circulated once an election is called.
