Defra's response to the Ombudsman's report on the Single Payment Scheme - Public Administration Committee Contents

Memorandum from Mr W (anonymous)

As a victim of this fiasco not only did we suffer the hardship brought about by the incompetent work of the RPA we now find ourselves let down by Government departments yet again. The hours we spent carefully putting our case together and meeting with the Ombudsman, answering queries and for what? The Ombudsman has researched the facts over three years and found in our favour, only to find that their recommendations for remedy would not be fully accepted. The offer of compensation is nothing short of insulting and does not even compensate for the time we have spent putting the case together. Why can a Government department not accept the findings, as we have. If not what is the point of an ombudsman, and what confidence can anyone have in the future?

The Rural Payments Agency have still not learnt from their mistakes, they are still one of the most frustrating departments to work with. The left hand never appears to know what the right hand is doing!!
