To

Enable electors in the precincts of a polling station before the time designated

for the closing of the poll to vote; and for connected purposes. 

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and

consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present

Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Entitlement to vote at close of poll

(1)   

Schedule 1 to the Representation of the People Act 1983 is amended as follows.

(2)   

In Rule 1, after “Table” insert “and Rules 1A and 1B”.

(3)   

At the end of Rule 1, insert—

“1A        

Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 43 (Procedure on close of

poll), at a general election, by-election or local government election

all electors who are entitled to vote at a polling station and who are

in the precincts of that polling station at the close of the poll must be

issued with a ballot paper and must be allowed to vote.

1B         

The appropriate Presiding Officer, Returning Officer or Acting

Returning Officer must determine the limits of the precincts of the

polling station.”.

Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Electoral Law (Amendment) Act 2011.
