The New Local Enterprise Partnerships: An Initial Assessment - Business, Innovation and Skills Committee Contents

Written evidence from Encocam

LEP FOR CAMBRIDGESHIRE

Following my attendance to a local meeting to discuss the need for an LEP for Cambridgeshire I felt that this has been a waste of time.

In my opinion the only way we can make a difference and make a radical change to the way services are provided and meet the local business need will be as follows:

    1. LEP should be based on membership, where local businesses sign up to.

    2. Committee members should be directly voted in by member constituency.

    3. There should be a quota for members from local council, academia, large companies and SMEs.

    4. Based on the geographical consideration, the industry and commerce section should be represented proportionally to their size for their local economy. And should be divided by their proportion to their status as large companies and SME's.

    5. Representatives should be from their sector of their industry.

Failing that, my fear is that the same old people and self appointed representatives would end up in the new LEPs.
