Supplementary memorandum from the Department
of Health
Q84 Austin Mitchell: That's true, but it doesn't
come into effect until 2011. Can you supply us with statistics
on the incidence of single-doctor practices in the deprived areas?
Answer: At March 2010, there were 371 single-handed
GP practices in the quintile of most deprived areas based on the
Index of Multiple Deprivation. Single-handed GP practices represent
22% of practices in the most deprived areas. The number of single-handed
GP practices in the most deprived areas has fallen over the past
five years: at March 2006, the number stood at 567, representing
34% of practices.
