Motion relating to the recommendations of the Members’ Expenses Committee report on the operation of the Parliamentary Standards
Act 2009 (Member in charge: Adam Afriyie).
The Backbench Business Committee heard that Members would wish to consider the recommendations of the Members’ Expenses Committee report on the operation of the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009, which established the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).
Motion relating to financial education (Members in charge: Justin Tomlinson, Andrew Percy and Mark Garnier) (for at least
three hours).
This is a topic of major public interest on which the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Financial Education for Young People is to publish a report. It has also been the subject of an e-petition entitled ‘Make financial education a compulsory part of the school curriculum’.
Thursday 15 December in Westminster Hall
Remploy (Members in charge: Ann Clwyd, John McDonnell, Jim Dobbin and Dr Hywel Francis).
This topic affects the constituencies of a number of Members and has recently been the subject of a paper petition with over 100,000 signatures. The Backbench Business Committee also heard that Members wished to have an opportunity to give a view on the Remploy Annual Report and the recommendations of the Sayce report.
Tuesday 20 December in the Chamber
General debate on matters to be raised before the forthcoming adjournment.
The Backbench Business Committee has decided that the Christmas adjournment debate on Tuesday 20 December will follow the format used before other recesses since December 2010. The House will sit at 11.30 am on this day (Order of 1 November).
Members are invited to apply to speak on a subject of their choice for no more than 10 minutes, specifying from which Government department they would like a response. Speeches will be grouped into subject areas and, for the departments with the highest number of applications, the relevant Minister invited to respond to the issues raised. This will be followed by a general debate where Members may raise any issue, for which a response will be provided by the Deputy Leader of the House.
Members should apply to the Table Office or email bbcom@parliament.uk to speak in the debate.
The deadline for applications is 6pm on Monday 12 December.
