5 Our questioning
16. We questioned Mr Ashby about the recruitment
process, his independence, his skills and experience, the role
of the new Regulation Committee and the its relationship with
the Homes and Communities Agency.
17. Particular lines of questioning focussed on:
- Mr Ashby's non-executive roles
with other organisations, and how he would deal with perceived
conflicts of interest;
- his ability to balance the potentially competing
priorities of economic regulation and consumer protection;
- his views on action the Committee could take
to encourage investment in social housing; and
- what he believed the Committee could do to support
a localist approach to social housing regulation.
