Bus Services after the Spending Review - Transport Committee Contents

Written evidence from A Boyce (BUS 85)

Being aged 69, I am the holder of a Herefordshire concessionary bus pass. At the time of writing, this may be used at any time of day but, from March 28, it will be invalid before 9.30am Monday to Friday.

Currently Herefordshire, although a very rural county, has an excellent bus service. But, with the future of all subsidised services due for scrutiny by the local authority because of what it describes as an "unprecedented reduction in central government funding", the future for some services does not look good. Either they will be withdrawn or, for instance, have their evening and Sunday timetables lopped off, where these exist.

I had been on the point of giving up my car and relying instead on public transport. But, because of the uncertainty, I have re-insured my vehicle for a further year and, as I send this e-mail, it is being put through another MoT. This is the very ungreen situation into which I have been forced.
