Olympics Security - Home Affairs Committee Contents

WRITTEN EVIDENCE SUBMITTED BY MRS J DEY [OS 15]

This is at least a week overdue.

I have no particular views about G4S as a company and no connections with the company.

G4S failed to supply sufficient security staff for the Olympics and as a result the company and its management have taken all the blame and complaints.

The Home Affairs Select Committee supported that position by interviewing one of their most senior managers.

But the Home Affairs Select Committee did not interview Lord Coe. His organisation took six and a half years to decide that at least four times as many security staff as were originally contracted would be needed.

So the armed forces were expected to supply troops. Then the police let it be known that they are also having to supply officers which suggests that even the December 2011 security staff numbers were lower than are required.

I sincerely hope the Olympics and Paralympics do go well: safely and securely. But I also hope that your committee will be asking Lord Coe how his organisation managed to be so wrong for so long; and that he will not be passing the blame onto others.
