I would like to formally lodge my objection to the roll out of smart meters nationwide in the UK.

Over the last decade, the rollout of radiowave technology has meant an exponential increase in the amount of microwave energy exposure on our streets, in particularly urban areas. This includes 2G, 3G and now 4G technology, quadband wavelengths, in addition to wireless at 2.4Ghz and DECT phones at such and higher wavelengths.

This is an already untested mixture of high frequency modulated radiowave radiation.

Anecdotal evidence from around the globe suggests that an increasing number of people are succumbing to illnesses they attribute to radiowave radiation, from headaches to feelings of agitation, loss of concentration, sleep disturbance, through to more serious complaints such as heart arrhythmia and fits. Various groups of doctors in Europe have written open letters attesting to the increasing occurrence of individuals suffering similar characteristics to those as mentioned above, which they are concerned may be related to their patients exposure to radiowave technology.

In fact, over the last 50 years, many scientific reports have detailed the biological effects of non ionising radiation, not least shown in a review commissioned by the US Navy in the 1970s and written by Zory Glaser of Soviet research of thousands of papers, looking at the biological effects at that time. This large area of research is presently being documented by Dr Magda Havas in Canada.

Important recent research in Greece suggests that insect reproduction is affected by radiowave non ionising radiation at non thermal levels. This may be a gentle reminder that organisms such as bees, which are of primary importance to us, may have had their immune function affected to just an extent to allow the influx in of bacterial, fungal and other pathogens to have caused the contemporary steep decline in their populations.

Whilst much of this research has yet to be replicated in peer reviewed publications, it is only a matter of time before the patterns become clearer, and the concerns of the few become those of the many. Some replication of research in the former USSR has been completed in the last couple of years and this has shown similar results to the original experiments.

I would thus initially like to formally request that a roll out of this technology be halted until such a time as we are more certain about the long term effects of wireless technology on both human and other organism’s health.

Where there has been the attempt to roll out such technology elsewhere against the wishes of citizens, there has been a backlash against the imposition of unwanted technology. Take this as a cautionary note to not try and impose such here on the UK public.

On another note, there are issues of personal privacy and freedom of choice to be considered here and matters of civil liberty. I personally do not want aspects of my lifestyle, ie energy usage, to be monitored, which may be then sold for financial gain by the utility company to any interested party that may have a vested interest in knowing my lifestyle, who are then free to approach me to sell a product, armed with personal information about me, gleaned from technological spying in my own home. This possibility I protest in the strongest possible terms.
