Annex 2: Letter from Mr John Whittingdale, Chair
on the Culture, Media and Sport Committee
"Thank you for your letter of 17 December and
the enclosures describing the European Commission's Work Programme
for 2015.
"As you anticipated, my Committee's own work
programme is full up to the likely date of Dissolution, but we
consider the Commission's proposals relating to a Connected Single
Digital Market likely to be of vital importance to the UK, given
that they focus on areas such as data protection, telecommunications
regulation, copyright and audiovisual media services and cyber-security,
all of which are areas on which my Committee has reported recently
and where a delicate balance between the interests of the industry,
consumers and government have to be maintained.
"I hope these brief comments are useful to your
Committee in producing its observations on the Programme."
