QUESTIONS FOR ORAL AND WRITTEN ANSWER - NEW SYSTEM FOR DIGITAL TABLING of questions

The new system for the digital tabling of questions went live on Friday 17 November.

This system modernises the process of tabling oral and written questions and replaces the e-tabling system. The system improves the service to Members by, for example, enabling the tracking of questions, providing information on any queries raised by the Table Office and sending alerts to Members who are successful in oral questions shuffles. Members are able to delegate authority for tabling questions to their staff, if they wish to do so.

What has not changed?

The daily quota for digitally submitting written questions (up to 20 questions in total).

The daily quota of five named day written questions.

The deadline for digitally submitting questions of 6.30pm or the rising of the House (if earlier) on each sitting day from Monday to Wednesday, 5:30pm or the rise of the House (if earlier) on Thursday and 2.30pm on sitting and non-sitting Fridays (or the rising of the House if earlier on sitting Fridays).

Members are still able to table questions for written and oral answer in hard copy by post or in person.

There are no changes to the current arrangements for tabling Early Day Motions or any other business.

If you have any questions about the new system, or you would like to know how to delegate authority for your staff, contact the Table Office on x3302 or 3303, by email at tableoffice@parliament.uk or in person. Alternatively, you can contact the Procedural Hub on x7333, by email at proceduralhub@parliament.uk or in person.
