Offensive Weapons Bill

Written evidence submitted by Bret Boivin (OWB08)

Article 15 of the Offensive Weapons bill is sheer lunacy.  Making it an offence to purchase online / delivery of ANYTHING with a blade is way too blunt of an instrument - entirely excessive.

This bill will damage UK tradesmen and craftsmen, the heart of this country's economy and pride.

Punishing the innocent larger public for the offences of a very small minority is unwarranted and will greatly damage small retailers (worldwide), craftsmen of all kinds (I can't even think of who this wouldn't affect), collectors, and anyone in general who appreciates fine art and craftsmanship.  Please look up Kramer Knives, The BushFire Forge here in London, or any number of knife makers in Japan for examples of the absolute art and skill that goes into making these beautiful bladed items which this bill would effectively ban the purchase of, by individuals in the UK.

I would like to petition for Article 15 to be removed in its entirety and to suggest that those responsible for this disaster of a bill should quickly go back and think again.  We need a workable and tenable plan and law that actually protects, not damages, the proud, free and law-abiding citizens of the United Kingdom.

Bret Boivin
