Offensive Weapons Bill

Written evidence submitted by Bernard Crocombe (OWB139)

Sir, I would urge you to consider the following when you approach the Offensive weapons bill.

1/ Legally held firearms has negligible effect on crime if any.

2/ The handgun (pistols & revolvers) ban had little or no effect on crime, official figures show this.

3/ Rifles are rarely used in crime.

4/ Data that exists on criminal use of legally held firearms

should be made public before there are changes in legislation. Changes in legislation should be EVIDENCE based.

There are a lot of law abiding people who shoot at lawful clubs and are as or even more concerned about the unlawful use of firearms than some of the well meaning detractors of firearms. We also spend large amounts to follow our sport both to government (fees) and independent businesses .
