Tenant Fees Bill

Written evidence submitted by Andrew G.M Hepburn M.A.R.L.A, Proprietor – Mead Property Management & Thames and Chilterns (TFB06)

Dear Sirs,

Like many of my colleagues in the Private Rented Sector I am resigned to the fact that government deem it sensible to remove the ability for Letting Agents or Landlords to charge Tenant Fees. My personal view is that this will be detrimental to tenants and counterproductive.

However I hope that common sense will prevail and that we will be able to charge certain fees. A number come to mind;

Change of Contract/Agreement details requested by tenant.

Additional deposit for Pets otherwise most landlords will say no.

Early termination of agreements.

Change of Sharers.

Change of locks.

Late payment fees.

Share of Contract Agreement fees. Surely this is to both parties benefit. If you buy a house each party pays costs for conveyancing.

Share of Inventory costs, this is to tenant benefit as well as landlord and not independent if all paid for by Landlord.

Kind regards,
Andrew G.M. Hepburn M.A.R.L.A.
