Session 2017-19
Tenant Fees Bill
Written evidence submitted by Mr Kameron Singh (TFB32)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I write in a personal capacity to submit evidence in relation to the Tenant Fees Bill at Committee Stage. As a long term, private rental tenant, I have significant interest in this bill.
Point Summary of evidence:
v Serious potential loophole in Bill – "Default Fees Exemption"
v "Reasonable Fees" loophole
Both of these two loopholes in the bill must be removed.
As they currently stand, they will effectively allow Landlords/Letting Agents to continue to charge excessive fees. If they are not removed, the Tenant Fees bill will not be fit for purpose.
This is a much needed and momentous piece of legislation to finally give proper protection to private tenants. Please do not allow these loopholes to remain in this bill.
