Building Safety Bill

Written evidence on the Building safety Bill submitted by Elizabeth Mollatt.

(BSB01)

I purchased an apartment in Nottingham in June last year. I conducted searches and had nothing detrimental come up. I decided to move and out the property on the market and achieved a sale. However my buyer pulled out due to a detrimental ESW1.

I now learn that £2.9 million needs spending to rectify cladding issues and I will be required to contribute as a leaseholder. How can this be? THis makes no sense regarding fairness or natural justice. I expect more from the Govt. I’ve lived in the UK all my life and my dad fought in the war. How can the UK be a place where this could happen. I’ve always felt proud to live in a country where consumer protection and the trust that comes with that enables people to feel confident they will be protected. Innocent people are being expected to pay for things they never knew about, had no part in creating and could not even take measures to find out about.

This is so wrong. Please do the right thing and protect all the millions of people who are trapped and face hideous costs through no fault of their own.
