Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill

Written evidence submitted by Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (REULB91)

The Bill proposes sunsetting retained EU legislation (REUL) unless a departmental review proposes retention, delay or changes to the REUL. To the extent that impact assessments need to be done, not having undertaken those assessments yet creates uncertainty for businesses, particularly those operating in highly regulated industries.

Depending on the outcomes of any departmental reviews, our concern is that we may have limited time to action changes required to our extremely detailed management systems within our group structure. This could create an unplanned resource burden that may be outside of our expected scope. It would be preferable to undertake the reviews prior to setting any sunset date or to specifically list in schedules to the Bill the legislation involved for clarity and then to specifically require a consultation of proposed changes to that legislation prior to setting any sunset date.
