Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments Fourteenth Report

Memorandum by the Home Office

By a letter from its Clerk dated 17 March 1999 the Committee has requested a memorandum on the following point:

The Order increases the fees payable to the Gaming Board in respect of four matters (registration, continued registration, promotion based on turnover and certification as a lottery manager) and the rates of increase vary from 3% to 7%. Explain the reasons for these different rates of increase.

The different percentage rates of increase are the outcome of the method of calculation used. The new fees were calculated by applying an increase of 5% to each of the existing fees then rounding each up or down to the nearest multiple of £5.
