Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments Twenty-Second Report

Memorandum by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food

  (AMENDMENT) ORDER 2000 (S.I. 2000/1298)

  1. The Committee has requested the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to submit a memorandum on the following question:

"New article 4(2B) of the 1974 Order [the Rabies (Importation of Dogs, Cats and Other Mammals) Order 1974 (SI 1974/2211)] as inserted by article 2(3) of this instrument [(SI 2000/1298)] refers to the new requirement for a delay of six months between the taking of a blood sample from and the importation of an animal. This requirement is stated to be one under "sub-paragraph (c) of paragraph (2A) above" (as also inserted by article 2(3) here). Should not the reference be to "sub-paragraph (d)" of that provision?"

  2. The Ministry acknowledges that the reference should indeed be to sub-paragraph (d) rather than sub-paragraph (c).

  3. This error has been corrected by means of a further Order (The Pets Travel Scheme (Pilot Arrangements) (England) (Amendment) (No 2) Order 2000 (not yet numbered)), which amends SI 2000/1298.

  4. Both these Orders come into force on the same date (5th June 2000) and arrangements have been made with Her Majesty's Stationery Office for the corrected version of SI 2000/1298 to be published.

  5. The Ministry apologises to the Committee for this error.
