Joint Committee on The Draft Communications Bill Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Memorandum submitted by Ron Etherington

In a recent report AOL commented that rural areas can be served by Cable among other things. Lord Puttnam may be interested to know that ntl laid a cable in the road in front of my house three years ago but did not offer connection and at the latest enquiry advised me that they are making no new connections. So although the infrastructure is there the public is unable to use it and of course there is no competition to move the situation. ntl might as well be a monopoly and should accept that monopolies have responsibilities in return for their privileged position.
