DCH 33 - Submission from Mrs Jean Norman

M E M O R A N D U M

To: Joint Committee From: Mrs Joan Norman

Draft Charities Bill Treasurer

Midsomer Norton

Townswomen's Guild

Date: 03 June 2004

Subject: CHAPTER 3 REGISTRATION OF CHARITIES

3A(2)(d) GROSS INCOME

3A 8 INTERIM CHANGES IN THRESHOLD FOR REGISTRATION

OF SMALL CHARITIES

1 - My Guild has cross-party lobbied for the annual income to be raised from the current unrealistic £1000 to £5000 and is delighted that this provision has been included in the Draft Charities Bill.

2 - 3A 8 Noting that the Secretary of State may by order introduce this measure my Guild would seek a commencement date of the first day of January 2005 in time for its new financial year 1st February 2005.

3 - This provision, together with the scope to take account of future changes in the value for money (3A(8)(b) is a victory for commonsense which will free small organisations throughout the UK from unnecessary bureaucracy.

Thank you to all concerned.
