Joint Committee on the Draft Gambling Bill Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary memorandum from the Advertising Association (DGB 164)

At the oral evidence session of Tuesday 24 February 2004 when the Advertising Association (AA) gave evidence, Andrew Brown promised that the AA would get back to the Committee with an answer for the Rt Hon the Lord Brooke of Sutton Mandeville PC CH on a supplementary question he posed.

Mr Brown had referred to a news release issued by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) on 17 February 2004 entitled "FSA stamps on misleading adverts", which concerned the number of complaints about financial advertisements received by that body between 1 July 2003 and 31 December 2003.

Lord Brooke's question related to the number of complaints about financial advertisements that had been referred onto the Financial Services Authority (FSA) by the Building Societies' Ombudsman (BSO) over that six month period.

Having spoken with the relevant individual within the FSA, I understand that no complaints were referred onto the Authority by the BSO over that period.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information on this or any other issue.
