12. Memorandum from The Howard League
for Penal Reform
The Howard League for Penal Reform was extremely
interested to see that you were undertaking an investigation into
this very important area of policy. The Howard League has been
campaigning to raise awareness about this issue for more than
a decade and there is still a long way to go.
Unfortunately, due to limited staff resources
we are not able to make a formal submission, on this occasion.
However, I am sending you a copy of the submission we made to
the recent Home Office consultation on investigating deaths in
prisons and approved premises, and a copy of a letter sent to
the Prison and Probation Ombudsman this week in relation to the
on-going investigation into deaths at HMP Styal, for information.
[140]Please
feel free to circulate this information to other Committee members
if you feel it is helpful.
