Appendix 5 S.I. 2004/708: memorandum from
the Ministry of Defence
Naval, Military and Air Forces Etc. (Disablement
and Death) Service Pensions Order 2004 (S.I. 2004/708)
The Ministry of Defence is aware that the Committee
has previously asked for an indication of when the Naval, Military
and Air Forces Etc. (Disablement and Death) Service Pensions Order
1983 will be consolidated. The Ministry regrets that it has not
previously been able to begin work on consolidation as it has
lacked the appropriate resources for this extensive piece of work.
We are currently undertaking a stewardship review of the War Pensions
Scheme which we expect to complete within the next year. Given
the possibility that further substantial change may be required
to the Scheme as a result of this review, we consider that the
conclusion of this work would be the most sensible point at which
to take forward the consolidation of the Order. We would plan
to complete this task within the next two years.
