Session 1996-97

Information About This Service

From 24 October 1996, at the beginning of the 1996-97 Parliamentary Session, certain House of Lords publications and information material are for the first time available electronically. The material is put on the Internet by The Stationery Office Ltd under contractual arrangements agreed by the House of Lords in 1996.

Although House of Lords publications remain Parliamentary Copyright, they will be available, free of charge, on the Internet. Individuals are authorised to download text to file or printer for their own personal use.

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

A limited number of publications are currently available as follows:

  • Hansard (the Official Report of Debates in the House of Lords) including answers to questions for written answer and a search facility. Available daily from 24 October 1996, normally by 9.00am on the day after the debates took place .

  • Future Business in the House of Lords (revised weekly): an indication of the debates to be held and the questions to be asked in the House of Lords in the following week.

  • Public Bills (draft legislation): the up-to-date text of certain bills now being considered by the House of Lords. (It is expected that all bills will be available from May 1997 and amendments from autumn 1997 - see below.)

  • Select Committees - their future meetings, current enquiries and requests for evidence.

    Full text of the Science and Technology Committee Report on Information Society: Agenda for Action in the UK, published on 31 July 1996.

  • Judgments delivered by the Law Lords: the opinions given when results of the appeal cases to the House of Lords are made known. Available by 4.00pm on the day of delivery.

  • A range of information material on:

    • The role and work of the House of Lords
    • Members of the House of Lords: an alphabetical list with attendance records for Session 1995-96
    • Judicial Business
    • House of Lords Select Committees
    • Parliamentary Archives: The House of Lords Record Office

TO BECOME AVAILABLE IN 1997

  • The latest version of Bills in the House of Lords: some Bills are already available; all current public Bills will be available from May 1997. Proposed amendments to Bills due to be discussed in the Lords will follow in autumn 1997.

  • Select Committee Reports, excluding evidence: further Reports will become available, with all Reports being published from May 1997.

  • Other House of Lords Papers: by May 1997.

During Session 1997-98 most or all House of Lords publications will be made available in electronic form.
