Judicial work and judgments

The House of Lords is the final court of appeal on points of law for the whole of the United Kingdom in civil cases and for England, Wales and Northern Ireland in criminal cases. From this page you can find:

* The Law Lords—a list of the current Lords of Appeal in Ordinary and the other Lords of Appeal.
* Information on the Judicial Work of the House of Lords—the jurisdiction of the House, the Law Lords, procedure, and the history of the judicial role of the House.
* Civil Practice Directions—the Practice Directions and Standing Orders applicable to civil appeals (the 'Blue Book'). Paper copies are available from the Judicial Office.

* Causes Standing for Hearing—here you can download a list of all full appeals before the House of Lords at the beginning of this term. The list is revised at the beginning of each judicial term. Paper copies are available from the Judicial Office.

* Judgments—the full text of all Opinions delivered since 14 November 1996. The text of Opinions appears on this site within 2 hours of their delivery in the House. Paper copies are available from the Judicial Office (see below) at £5 sterling per copy.

The Office is open from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm Mondays to Thursdays in term time, and from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm on Fridays and when Parliament is in recess.
