Human Rights Bill: EU Convention
Lord Lester of Herne Hill asked Her Majesty's Government:
- Whether the Human Rights Bill is still designed, as explained by the Prime Minister in his preface to the White Paper Rights Brought Home (Cm. 3782), to bring the European Convention on Human Rights into United Kingdom law.[HL426]
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Williams of Mostyn): I refer the noble Lord to the remarks of the Lord Chancellor on this point during the Third Reading debate on the Human Rights Bill in the House of Lords on Thursday 5 February. [H.L. Deb., col. 480].
Wales: Analysis of GCSE Results 1994-97
Baroness Blatch asked Her Majesty's Government:
- Whether they will publish data for Wales showing for comprehensive schools, modern schools, grammar schools, state schools, independent schools and all schools separately, the percentage of all 16 year-old pupils in each of the years 1994 to 1997 passing GCSE examinations with Grade A* to C in the following subjects: mathematics, English, English literature, sciences (showing separately percentages for single award science, double award science, physics, chemistry and biology), French, history and geography, showing separately for each type of state school the percentages for local education authority schools, voluntary schools (including together voluntary controlled, voluntary aided, and special agreement schools), grant-maintained schools and, where appropriate, CTCs and including, for each category of school, the number of schools and the number of 16 year-old pupils.[HL423]
Lord Williams of Mostyn: Information for independent and all schools was given in my reply of 11 February (WA 209). Information on GCSE results is usually given for those pupils aged 15 at the start of the academic year (i.e. those who become 16 during the school year). Information for these pupils, for state schools in Wales, is given in the following tables. There are no "modern" or "grammar" schools in Wales.
