Wednesday 7 May 1997 PARLIAMENTMet at half-past two oclock pursuant to a proclamation dated 21st March last; the Lords Commissioners being seated, the Lord Chancellor in the middle with the Lord Privy Seal (Lord Richard) and the Lord Jenkins of Hillhead to his right hand and the Viscount Cranborne and the Lord Weatherill on his left, the Commission for opening Parliament dated the 7th instant was read; and the Commons, being present at the Bar, were directed to proceed to the choice of a Speaker and to present the person chosen tomorrow, at half-past two oclock, for the Royal Approbation.The following Lords Spiritual and Temporal were present: Irvine of Lairg, L.
