The House met at half-past ten o’clock.

1.British Telecommunications plc (Appellants) v. James Thomson & Sons (Engineers) Limited (Respondents) (Scotland)—The appeal was set down for hearing and referred to an Appellate Committee.

(Conjoined appeals)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 8th November next (the agents for the respondents consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.

4.Cutter (Respondent) v. Eagle Star Insurance Company (Appellants)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 19th November next (the agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.
5.Clarke (A.P.) (Respondent) v. Kato, Smith and General Accident Fire & Life Assurance Corporation plc (Appellants)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 19th November next (the agents for the respondents consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.
6.City Council of Bristol (Appellants) v. Lovell (A.P.) (Respondent)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 15th October next (the agents for the respondents consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.
7.Appeal Committee—The 26th report from the Appeal Committee was agreed to and the following Order was made—

That the petition of Equitas Reinsurance Limited that they might be heard or otherwise intervene in the said appeal be allowed on condition that the intervenors waive any costs to which they may become entitled in the event of their success on this appeal, and that they undertake to reimburse the respondents for all reasonable costs that they may incur arising out of the intervention.

8.Regina v. Emmett and another (Respondents) (On Appeal from the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division))—The order of 16th April last referring the cause to an Appellate Committee was discharged; the cause was in part heard and adjourned till tomorrow.
