Lord Hunt of Kings Heath—Philip Alexander Hunt Esquire OBE, having been created Baron Hunt of Kings Heath, of Birmingham in the County of West Midlands, for life by Letters Patent dated in the forenoon of 20th October 1997 (see appendix 1), was introduced between the Baroness Fisher of Rednal and the Baroness Jay of Paddington, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod and Garter King of Arms preceding; and made and subscribed the solemn affirmation pursuant to statute. 2. Baroness Kennedy of The Shaws—Ms Helena Ann Kennedy QC, having been created Baroness Kennedy of The Shaws, of Cathcart in the City of Glasgow, for life by Letters Patent dated in the afternoon of 27th October 1997 (see appendix 2), was introduced between the Baroness Blackstone and the Lord Falconer of Thoroton, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod and Garter King of Arms preceding; and took and subscribed the oath pursuant to statute. 3. Lord Puttnam—Sir David Terence Puttnam, Knight, CBE, having been created Baron Puttnam, of Queensgate in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, for life by Letters Patent dated in the forenoon of 27th October 1997 (see appendix 3), was introduced between the Baroness Jay of Paddington and the Baroness Smith of Gilmorehill, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod and Garter King of Arms preceding; and took and subscribed the oath pursuant to statute. 4. Oath—Rachel Leila Baroness Dacre took and subscribed the oath pursuant to statute. Papers 5. Business of the House—It was moved by the Lord Privy Seal (Lord Richard) that the debate on the motion in the name of the Lord Williams of Elvel set down for today shall be limited to 5 hours; the motion was agreed to. 10. Environment (5-hour debate)—It was moved by the Lord Williams of Elvel that there be laid before the House papers relating to the environment and, in particular, to the case for environmental protection and enhancement, both nationally and internationally; after debate, the motion was (by leave of the House) withdrawn. 11. Montserrat—The Baroness Young asked Her Majesty’s Government what is the situation in Montserrat; after debate, the question was answered by the Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean.
