Judicial Business
| 1. | Pickford (A.P.) (Respondent) v. Imperial Chemical Industries (Appellants)—The Report from the Appellate Committee was agreed to; it was ordered and adjudged that the Order of the Court of Appeal of 25th June 1996 be set aside and that the Order of Judge Eifion Roberts of 4th November 1994 be restored; that the costs of the appellants in the Court of Appeal and in this House be paid out of the Legal Aid Fund in accordance with section 18 of the Legal Aid Act 1988, such order to be suspended for four weeks to allow the Legal Aid Board to object if they wish; that the amount of the costs in this House be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties; and that the costs of the respondents in this House be taxed in accordance with the Legal Aid Act 1988. |
| 2. | In re L (by his next friend GE) (A.P.) (Respondent)—The Report from the Appellate Committee was agreed to; it was ordered and adjudged that the Order of the Court of Appeal of 2nd December 1997 be set aside save for that part which restricts publication of particulars which might lead to the identification of the respondent and save as to legal aid taxation; that the Orders of Mr Justice Owen of 9th October 1997 be restored; that the costs of the appellants in the Court of Appeal and in this House be paid out of the Legal Aid Fund in accordance with section 18 of the Legal Aid Act 1998, such order to be suspended for four weeks to allow the Legal Aid Board to object if they wish; that the amount of the costs in this House be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties; that there be no order as to the costs of the interveners; and that the costs of the respondents in this House be taxed in accordance with the Legal Aid Act 1988. |
| 3. | Regina v. Woollin (Appellant) (On Appeal from the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division))—The Report from the Appellate Committee was agreed to; it was ordered and adjudged that the Order of the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) of 23rd July 1996 be set aside; that the conviction of the appellant by the Crown Court at Leeds on 15th December 1995 be quashed; that there be substituted a conviction for manslaughter and that the cause be remitted to the Court of Appeal for sentencing. |
| 4. | Murray and another (A.P.) (Appellants) v. Foyle Meats Limited (Respondents) (Northern Ireland)—The appeal of Noel Murray and Adrian Doherty was presented and it was ordered that in accordance with Standing Order VI the statement and appendix thereto be lodged on or before 6th August next. |
| 5. | In re L (by his next friend GE) (A.P.) (Respondent)—The respondent’s legal aid certificate was lodged. |

| 13. | Quarrying—The Viscount Addison asked Her Majesty’s Government how they intend to demonstrate their determination to go further in addressing the environmental damage caused by quarrying; after debate, the question was answered by the Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton. |
