7.Pesticides Bill—The bill was read a third time and passed and returned to the Commons with an amendment.
8.School Standards and Framework Bill—The report was received; amendments were disagreed to (see division lists 1 to 4); amendments were agreed to; amendments were moved and (by leave of the House) withdrawn; further consideration on report was adjourned.
9.Council of Europe—The Lord Ponsonby of Shulbrede asked Her Majesty’s Government what plans they have to promote the work of the Council of Europe; after debate, the question was answered by the Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean.

It was moved by the Baroness Blatch, in Clause 1, page 2, line 4, at end to insert:

(“( ) No limit under this section shall be effective to prevent the admission of a child to a denominational school where—

(a) the parent of the child has expressed a desire for the child to attend a denominational school;

(b) the admissions authority of a denominational school have expressed a willingness to accept the child, notwithstanding the provisions of this section; and

(c) no alternative place is available within a reasonable distance in another school of the same denomination.”);

which being objected to, the question was put thereupon, and the House divided:
