B. CASES WHERE EFFECTIVE SCRUTINY HAS NOT BEEN POSSIBLE
45. COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE SPECIAL EUROPEAN
COUNCIL ON EMPLOYMENT: COMMUNITY POLICIES IN SUPPORT OF EMPLOYMENT
(12392/97)
Letter from Lord Tordoff, Chairman of the Committee,
to The Rt Hon Andrew Smith MP, Minister for Employment, Welfare
to Work and Equal Opportunities, Department for Education and
Employment
I am writing in respect of your explanatory memorandum of
8 December relating to this item. I note that the item has no
direct legal implications and that individual Commission proposals
will be subject to Parliamentary Scrutiny as they are brought
forward. However, I regret that the item was not deposited for
scrutiny at an earlier date, since it was obviously available
to you in advance of the Special European Council on Employment
on 20 and 21 November. I should be grateful if you would ensure
in future that items for scrutiny are deposited in a more timely
fashion.
