1. Leave of Absence—Leave of absence was granted to the Lord Chancellor for Monday 5th October.
Judicial Business
2. Hoechst Celanese Corporation and others (Respondents) v. BP Chemicals Limited and others (Petitioners) (lodged 23rd July)— The petition of BP Chemicals Limited and Purolite International Limited praying for leave to appeal was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee.
3. B (a minor suing by his next friend the Official Solicitor) (A.P.) (Petitioner) v. East Lindsey District Council (Respondents)— The petition of the minor praying for leave to appeal was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee. The petitioner’s legal aid certificate was lodged.
4. Appeal Committee—The following Order was made pursuant to the 60th Report:

6. Appeal Committee—The following Order was made pursuant to the 86th Report:
British Broadcasting Corporation (Respondents) v. Kelly-Phillips (Petitioner)— That leave to appeal be given, and that the petition of appeal be lodged by 13th August next.
7. Appeal Committee—The 93rd Report from the Appeal Committee was agreed to and the following Orders were made:
Regina v. Secretary of State for the Home Department (Respondent) ex parte Jahangir (Petitioner)— That leave to appeal be refused.
Living Waters Christian Centres Limited (Petitioners) v. Conwy County Borough Council and another (Respondents)— That leave to appeal be refused; that the respondents be at liberty to apply for their costs in accordance with direction 5.1(d) and, if the application is granted, that the amount thereof be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties.
El Naschie and another (Petitioners) v. Pitt Place (Epsom) Limited (Respondents)— That the petition be referred for hearing.
Marangos Hotels Company Limited and others (Petitioners) v. 13. Scotland Bill—The House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; amendments were agreed to; the question that a clause stand part of the bill was negatived; the House was resumed.
14. Northern Ireland (Sentences) Act 1998 (Specified Organisations) Order 1998—It was moved by the Lord Dubs that the draft Order laid before the House on 28th July be approved; after debate, the motion was agreed to.
15. Scotland Bill—The House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; amendments were agreed to; the House was resumed after amendment 279A.
