Baroness Amos: The European Commission does not have any resident representation in Somaliland. Somalia is handled from Nairobi. We do not have information on the cost of this operation.

Baroness Amos: The EC's rehabilitation programmes for Somalia total 85 million euros (some £59.5 million). We understand that the reconstruction of the two bridges is funded bilaterally by the Government of Denmark.

Operation Lifeline Sudan: Funding

Lord McNair asked Her Majesty's Government:

    What has been the annual value of British aid to Sudan, bilaterally, through Operation Lifeline Sudan, by way of the European Community or otherwise, since 1990.[HL1252]

(5) Includes UK humanitarian assistance to Sudan delivered via Operation Lifeline Sudan through UN agencies and international NGOs.

1998 figure also includes £4.9 million contributed to WFP programmes and allocated entirely to Sudan.

(6) Imputed UK share of multilateral organisations' direct assistance to Sudan.
