Local Authority Best Value Performance Plans

Lord Smith of Leigh asked Her Majesty's Government:

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (Lord Whitty): The Audit Commission reviewed local authorities' first year experience of Best Value Performance Plans and published its report on 20 October. The Government agree with the commission's recommendations for local authorities, and in particular the advice that they should take a more strategic approach in formulating their programmes of Best Value Reviews.

Slaughterhouse Inspection and Regulation: Report

Lord Willoughby de Broke asked Her Majesty's Government:

    When they expect to reply to the recommendations made by the Maclean report concerning the costs of inspection and regulation of slaughterhouses.[HL4494]

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Hayman): The Government are currently giving detailed consideration to the Maclean Group's report and recommendations and expect to make an announcement shortly.

Spoliation Advisory Panel

Lord Janner of Braunstone asked Her Majesty's Government:

    What progress has been made by the Spoliation Advisory Panel; and when they expect the panel to publish its report on the work it is currently investigating.[HL4689]

Lord McIntosh of Haringey: The Spoliation Advisory Panel last met in early November and it is anticipated that it will present its report to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport within the next month.
