Select Committee on Delegated Powers and Deregulation Ninth Report

Letter to the House of Commons Deregulation Committee

As requested, I have prepared some further information for the Deregulation Committee on the trading and social implications of Sunday dancing.

May I point out that these proposals would enable venues to apply to open on a Sunday. These applications would be subject to enhanced scrutiny, which would give local authorities and magistrates the opportunity to prevent inappropriate clubs from trading on a Sunday. In term this should help minimise disturbance to local residents and public order problems.

There is also a clear power under the order for the licence of any venue to be revoked on the grounds of disturbance or annoyance. This will act both as an incentive for premises to operate in a considerate and orderly manner and as a swift means for the removal of licences from troublesome premises.

I hope you find this additional information to be of use. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require further assistance.
