Select Committee on Delegated Powers and Deregulation Ninth Report

Letter from Mr D Leeming, Nelson, Lancs

I write to express my concern at the proposals. I feel that such changes cannot be good for our country as a whole and for society. The Christian observance of Sunday as a day of rest has brought great benefits to this nation.

Changes will give greater opportunity for increased drink and drug abuse especially among young people.

Further they will lead to increased pressure for many to work on Sunday especially in the leisure industry.

In addition changes will encourage disturbance, late on Sunday evening and in the early hours of Monday morning.

Finally, such changes will have a detrimental effect on Sunday as a day that families can spend together.
