Judicial Business

1.Government of the United States of America (Respondents) v. Montgomery and another (Appellants)—It was moved by the Lord Hoffmann, That the 11th Report from the Appellate Committee (2001, UKHL/3) be agreed to; the motion was agreed to. It was ordered and adjudged that the Order of the Court of Appeal of 8th July 1998 be affirmed and the appeal dismissed with costs, the amount thereof to be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties.
2.Resource Underwriting Limited (Petitioners) v. McHugh and another (Respondents) (Northern Ireland)—The petition of Resource Underwriting Limited praying for leave to appeal was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee (lodged 12th January).
3.Regina v. Southwark Crown Court (Respondents) ex parte Bossino (Petitioner)—The petition of Plinio Bossino praying for leave to appeal in accordance with the Administration of Justice Act 1960 was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee (lodged 25th October).
4.Appeal Committee—The 7th Report Part II from the Appeal Committee was agreed to and the following Orders were made—

Regina v. Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (Petitioner) ex parte Holding & Barnes plc (Respondents)—That leave to appeal be given, and that the petition of appeal be lodged forthwith.

Regina v. Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (Petitioner) ex parte Alconbury Developments Limited and others (Respondents)—That leave to appeal be given, and that the petition of appeal be lodged forthwith.

Public Business

9.Business of the House—It was moved by the Baroness Jay of Paddington that Standing Order 40 (Arrangement of the Order Paper) be dispensed with so far as is necessary on Monday next to enable the motion standing in the name of the Lord Hunt of Kings Heath to be taken before the second reading of the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill; the motion was agreed to.
10. Business of the House—It was moved by the Baroness Jay of Paddington that the debate on the motion in the name of the Lord Tebbit set down for Wednesday next shall be limited to 5 hours; the motion was agreed to.
11.Regulatory Reform Bill [HL]—The House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; an amendment was agreed to; an amendment was disagreed to (see division list); the House was resumed and the bill was reported with an amendment; it was ordered that the bill be printed as amended. (HL Bill 13)
12.Tourism in Britain—The Baroness Anelay of St Johns asked Her Majesty’s Government what steps they are taking to promote the marketing of British tourism to visitors from overseas; after debate, the question was answered by the Lord McIntosh of Haringey.
