1.Dubai Aluminium Company Limited v. Salaam (Respondent) and others (Appellants) and others and others (Respondents)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 14th March next (the agents for the respondents consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.
2.Regina v. Bossino (Petitioner)—It was ordered that the petition presented on 26th October last be withdrawn.
3.Appeal Committee—The 9th Report from the Appeal Committee was agreed to and the following Orders were made—

Public Business

6.Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill [HL]—The order of commitment of 29th January was discharged and the bill was committed to a Grand Committee.
7.Private Security Industry Bill [HL]—The House resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; the House was resumed for a statement; the House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; an amendment was negatived; an amendment was disagreed to (see division list); the House was resumed.
8.Olympics—The Lord Brougham and Vaux asked Her Majesty’s Government what plans they have to ensure sufficient financial support for British competitors at the next Olympics; after debate, the question was answered by the Lord McIntosh of Haringey.
9.Private Security Industry Bill [HL]—The House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; amendments were agreed to; the House was resumed and the bill was reported with amendments; it was ordered that the bill be printed as amended. (HL Bill 14)

PRIVATE SECURITY INDUSTRY BILL

It was moved by the Lord Cope of Berkeley, in Clause 4, page 4, line 47, at end to insert:

(“(6) A person may apply, on notice to the Security Industry Authority, to the magistrates’ court having jurisdiction over the area affected by the designated activities, for an exemption from the requirements to apply for a licence and the Lord Chancellor may make an order as to the procedure to be followed on such an application, including on urgent applications; and the test to be applied by the court is the same as that which would have been applied had an application been made to the Security Industry Authority.

(7) A licence under subsection (6) shall not be granted for a period exceeding one month and shall not be renewable.”);

which being objected to, the question was put thereupon, and the Committee divided:
