Business of the House—It was moved by the Baroness Jay of Paddington ( Lord Privy Seal) that Standing Order 40 (Arrangement of the Order Paper) be dispensed with on Monday next to enable the motion standing in the name of the Lord Rodgers of Quarry Bank to be taken immediately after the motion relating to the 2nd Report of the Liaison Committee; the motion was agreed to. 15. Learning society (Balloted debate)—It was moved by the Baroness Prashar that there be laid before the House papers relating to the role of national policy makers in creating a learning society; after debate, the motion was (by leave of the House) withdrawn. 16. Iran (Balloted debate)—It was moved by the Lord Alton of Liverpool that there be laid before the House papers relating to the violations of human rights in Iran and to the policy of Her Majesty’s Government towards Iran; after debate, the motion was (by leave of the House) withdrawn. 17. Discrimination—The Lord Lester of Herne Hill asked Her Majesty’s Government what steps they are taking towards the comprehensive reform of anti-discrimination legislation in the United Kingdom, particularly regarding discrimination on the grounds of sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation; after debate, the question was answered by the Baroness Blackstone.
