Select Committee on Religious Offences in England and Wales Written Evidence

Submission from the Hounslow Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre

I have heard that the House of Lords has set up a select committee to look in to problems faced by faith communities.

My organisation is affiliated to the Muslim Council of Britain which is the umbrella organisation of Muslim organisations in Britain. My organisation has been consulted on the representation being made by the Muslim Council of Britain and have got full support to that effect.

My organisation's main concern is the blasphemy law as it covers the Christian faith only. I feel that it should be extended to cover other faiths as well.

Furthermore I feel that the law should cover incitement to religious hatred as it covers incitement to racial hatred as an offence.
