WORKING GROUP TO ADVISE ON THE IMPACT OF THE EUROPEAN WORKING TIME DIRECTIVE UPON MATERNITY SERVICES IN ENGLAND

TERMS OF REFERENCE

  1.  To receive the conclusions of the Hospital at Night working group in relation to maternity services.

  2.  To consider the information resulting from other pilot projects already funded by the Department of Health.

  3.  To obtain information from other Trusts moving towards implementation of the Directive.

  4.  To review relevant recent recommendations regarding maternity and neonatal workforce.

  5.  To propose a range of suitable staffing models for obstetric services in order to ensure continuity of service and maintenance of training, taking into account the implications of these developments for other healthcare professionals as well as obstetricians.

  6.  To establish a service for the provision of advice to Trusts seeking to implement the Directive.

  7.  To devise an appropriate system to audit progress.

  8.  To report to the Working Time Directive Expert Group.
